General Surgery Residency

The general surgery residency training program at Good Samaritan Hospital provides a unique opportunity for well qualified and highly motivated individuals to pursue careers in clinical or academic surgery. Large operative volumes and exposure to general surgery, surgical oncology, hepato-biliary, minimally invasive, colo-rectal, bariatric, cardiothoracic, surgical robotics, and vascular and endovascular surgery provide residents with an intense experience in patient care and complex decision making.

With a dedicated children (Cincinnati Children's Hospital) hospital, as well as a level 1 trauma center (University Hospital) within the city of Cincinnati, and mere minutes from Good Samaritan Hospital, outside rotations in these facilities provide a unique experience in evaluating, diagnosing, and operatively managing a subset of patients not seen at Good Samaritan Hospital. Dedicated basic and clinical research labs offer residents the distinctive opportunity to actively pursue personal projects of interest or work as part of a team.

Accredited as a five year training program by the ACGME and graduating 4 categorical residents annually, the graduating chief residents have the clinical judgement, knowledge, and technical skills required to be confident and competent upon entering general practice or pursuing further fellowship training.

We have a rich heritage and remarkable clinical reputation in treatment, medical education and research.
