The TriHealth Vein Center offers comprehensive vein treatment for varicose veins, reticular veins, and spider veins. We offer EndoVenous Laser Ablation, Ultrasound- guided sclerotherapy, and surface sclerotherapy treatments. Treatments are provided by our board certified vascular surgeons. We are located in Anderson Township, just a few minutes off of I-275.

A complimentary vein screening is offered for all patients.

At the screening appointment, you will meet with a nurse who will assess your veins and determine if testing is needed. Ultrasound testing is recommended when there are varicose veins or large reticular veins present. A Duplex ultrasound exam (also known as a Reflux Perforator Study) of the affected leg(s) shows how the blood moves through your veins. If testing is recommended, an appointment for an ultrasound will be made. If only surface spider veins are present, usually no testing is needed, and sclerotherapy information and pricing will be reviewed.

Varicose Veins

Varicose veins are dilated, swollen, elongated, and twisted blood vessels that have filled with an abnormal collection of blood. When someone has varicose veins, their valves do not function properly in an underlying vein in the leg, which causes an increase in pressure in that vein. The increased pressure over time can cause the formation of a varicose vein. Approximately 1 in 5 Americans suffer from varicose veins.

Symptoms: In addition to the visual appearance of the bulging veins, many patients may experience one or more of the following in their legs:

  • Pain, aching, or cramping feeling
  • Mild swelling of ankles
  • Heaviness/tiredness/fullness
  • Tender areas around veins
  • Itching around veins
  • Darkened or brown color of skin near ankle

Endovenous Laser Treatment (EVLT)

The VenaCure EVLT laser vein treatment procedure uses targeted laser energy to seal the underlying problem vein shut. The treatment is done in the office with local anesthesia. A thin laser fiber is inserted into the vein through a tiny entry point. The laser delivers a small amount of energy, causing the malfunctioning vein to close and seal shut.

  • Safe, fast, and effective procedure.
  • Minimal to no scarring.
  • No lengthy recovery.
  • Minimal to no side effects.
  • The treatment is 98% effective, and is typically eligible for insurance coverage, including Medicare.
  • Proven to have a low rate of patient complications compared to surgery.
  • Walking immediately after the procedure is encouraged. Normal daily activity can be resumed; just avoid rigorous activities for two weeks following the procedure.
  • There may be minor soreness and bruising for several days after the procedure. Any discomfort can be treated with over
  • the
  • counter pain relievers as necessary.

Ultrasound Guided Sclerotherapy

For uncomplicated varicose veins (varicose veins that have no underlying vein problem), Ultrasound-guided Sclerotherapy is the usual treatment. This treatment includes injection of an irritating solution into the varicose vein to cause the vein to collapse and shrink. After this kind of treatment, compression hose are to be worn for 5-7 days. Walking is encouraged, but high impact or cardio exercise should be avoided for 7 days.

Spider Veins

Spider veins and reticular veins are dilated veins found close to the surface of the skin. They may appear red or dark blue/purple in color. Sclerotherapy is used to treat spider veins and uncomplicated reticular veins. This minimally invasive treatment is performed by one of our physicians.

Sclerotherapy

Sclerotherapy is the injection of any unwanted surface vein with an irritating solution. This method of treatment can be used for spider veins of all sizes, and uncomplicated small varicose veins. A tiny needle is inserted just under the skin, into the vein, and the solution is injected. The solution damages and irritates the lining of the vein, causing it to shrivel and shrink, and is gradually absorbed by the body. It often takes more than one treatment to eliminate a vein.

Skin may look irritated after the treatment, and possibly even bruise. Irritation and bruising resolve with time.

After a sclerotherapy treatment, compression stockings must be worn for 48 hours. If larger veins are treated, the stockings are worn for 5-7 days. Normal activities are fine, but high impact and cardio exercise should be avoided for 7 days after each treatment. Sun exposure to treated areas should be avoided until the area is healed, usually several weeks.

The number of treatments required will vary depending on the size, type, and number of veins. Mild cases may clear with one treatment, although the average patient will require 3 treatments, approximately 6 weeks apart.
