The TriHealth and Beacon Partnership

The landmark affiliation provides TriHealth Orthopedic & Sports Institute and Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine patients seamless care from minor injuries to major surgeries by establishing the most comprehensive orthopedics and sports medicine program in the Tri-State region. Orthopedic care delivery will be redefined through the complementary and coordinated strengths of these leading independent providers of orthopedic surgical services and sports medicine.

Beacon and TriHealth bring highly complementary assets and capabilities to this unique joint venture. TriHealth operates the most respected health system in the region. It is also recognized as a leader in population health and value-based care – honored by United Healthcare as the top Accountable Care Organization (ACO) in Ohio and by Anthem as the #1 ACO in Ohio and #2 in the country. (ACOs are groups of doctors, hospitals, and other health care providers, who collaborate to give coordinated high-quality care to deliver on the Triple Aim of enhancing the individual experience of care, improving the health of large populations, and providing better value.)

Beacon, the founders of OrthoAlliance, a national orthopedic management services organization, is the region’s premier provider of orthopedic and sport medicine care. Beacon provides expert care to high school, college and professional athletes throughout Cincinnati while offering a full spectrum of orthopedic care to meet the needs of all patients – at convenient outpatient centers throughout the region. Beacon has developed a constant focus on providing patients & employers with instant access to quality orthopedic care at the best value possible. Since its founding, Beacon’s outpatient surgical centers have also been recognized by major insurers and employers for removing millions of dollars of cost from the local healthcare delivery system.

The partnership includes the following essential elements:

First, TriHealth and Beacon have combined their existing orthopedic ambulatory surgery centers to create the region’s most comprehensive and accessible network of such outpatient facilities, including the Summit Woods Surgery Center, Beacon West Surgery Center, and the Evendale campus. The jointly governed network of facilities are operated by Beacon on a day-to-day basis, utilizing their strengths in developing and managing outpatient orthopedic centers. This allows for greater access to affordable and high-quality care across the region.

Second, TriHealth orthopedic and hand surgeon physicians have joined Beacon – creating a highly coordinated and specialized team of physicians with office locations across Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky, and southeastern Indiana. This group of physicians provides patients with immediate access to all forms of orthopedic care, in convenient community-based locations. TriHealth pain management, podiatry and physical medicine & rehabilitation providers remain in TriHealth’s employed physician group.

Finally, through a co-management agreement, Beacon provides support in leading the TriHealth musculoskeletal service line at all TriHealth hospitals. Through this arrangement, TriHealth and Beacon work together to manage the full range of musculoskeletal services with TriHealth continuing to oversee the day-to-day management of the hospital-based orthopedic and sports services.
