The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU) is a 20 bed unit staff by registered nurses who have received extensive education and training in caring for the critically ill neurologically impaired patients, including stroke.
The nursing team holds certifications in emergency neurological life support (ENLS) and stroke and critical care certification. In collaboration with our expert Neurocritical Care providers, Neurosurgeons, and our advanced practice clinicians, the nursing team provides comprehensive care to our patients that is patient-centric, diverse, and outcome driven.
The Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (NSICU), located at TriHealth's Good Samaritan Hospital, is a dedicated intensive care unit that has been providing high quality neurologic care for over 40 years.
The NSICU features 20 state of the art private rooms with some of the most advanced technology to assist in caring for patients.

STroke And NeuroSciences Emergencies Team (STANSE team)
At TriHealth we committed to providing advanced, quality, and timely neurologic care to patients throughout the greater Cincinnati and northern Kentucky area. To accomplish this goal, our stroke program utilizes video technology to perform emergency tele-stroke consultations to our TriHealth facilities.
Available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, our neurocritical care providers, who specialize in vascular neurology, are ready to interact with patients, families, and medical providers using real time video connection, as well as review brain imaging and other data to make time sensitive decisions regarding acute stroke interventions such as intravenous thrombolysis and/or endovascular therapy. Our STANSE providers will help initiate timely transfers to Good Samaritan Hospital or other regional hospitals, if indicated, based on patient factors; alternatively, the STANSE Team provides a ongoing follow-up consultations as needed to coordinate care with the local providers if patients remain at their original site.
Our Neurosciences Intensive Care Unit consists of a dedicated team led by Dr. Christopher Zammit solely focused on neurologic disorders and stroke care from for patients and their families suffering acute neurologic conditions including but not limited to stroke, seizures, altered mental status changes, etc. Using a patient centered care model with daily multidisciplinary rounding, to provide individualized, comprehensive, outcome driven care.
