The Leapfrog Group, a Washington D.C-based organization aiming to improve health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers, today released the new Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades and four TriHealth hospitals received ‘A' grades.

Bethesda North, Good Samaritan, McCullough-Hyde Memorial Hospital and Bethesda Butler Hospitals each received the highest mark for their efforts in protecting patients from harm and meeting the highest safety standards in the U.S. The Safety Grade assigns an A, B, C, D or F grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, infections and other harms among patients in their care.

"This exceptional commitment to hospital safety has been consistent across all TriHealth hospitals and it is great achievement to continue to rank as among the safest hospitals in the region," said Kevin Joseph, MD, Senior Vice President of Quality and Chief Medical Officer at TriHealth. "It is wonderful that TriHealth's unwavering commitment to the delivery of exceptionally safe care with the highest quality is recognized by Leapfrog."

This is the sixth survey in a row Bethesda North Hospital has received an A. Good Samaritan Hospital has earned an "A" safety grade for the fourth time in the last six ratings period, while McCullough-Hyde has earned their 5th consecutive "A" safety grade on this most recent report. Bethesda Butler Hospital earned their fourth consecutive "A" for the safety ratings period.

"Leapfrog's Hospital Safety Grades recognize hospitals like TriHealth's that focus on advancing patient safety. This ranking provides an important resource for patients, and a benchmark for hospitals, to determine how care at one hospital compares to others in a region," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "Hospitals that earn an A Hospital Safety Grade deserve to be recognized for their efforts in preventing medical harm and errors."

Developed under the guidance of an Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 27 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to approximately 2,600 U.S. hospitals twice per year. It is peer reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public.
