When you’re injured or don’t feel well, it can be tricky to figure out where to start when it comes to seeking care.
But, you can take comfort in knowing that TriHealth is nearby with the right care you need, when you need it.
When you need care, always start with your doctor. It’s best to start with your primary care provider (PCP) to determine the type of care you need. Primary care providers often have evening and weekend hours, as well as same-day sick visits. You can even call after hours for medical advice. They can help you decide if you need to go see one of our doctors, go to Priority Care (urgent care), or go straight to the emergency department.
Your PCP is your best resource to determine the level of care needed based upon your presenting symptoms. The suggested place of care will be both timely, avoiding excessive and unnecessary waits in the emergency department, and the most cost-effective option for you.
Your doctor is the best place to start for conditions like a cold or the flu, sprains and other minor injuries, headaches, migraines, fever, rashes, or regular physicals, vaccinations, and screenings.
However, if it’s not an emergency and you can’t see your doctor, you can go to one of our TriHealth Priority Care locations or the nearest TriHealth Clinic at Walgreens. TriHealth Priority Care is your best option for urgent care when you need help immediately – these locations are part of the TriHealth system, which means that your medical record is shared between TriHealth Priority Care and your doctor. TriHealth Clinic at Walgreens also connects your medical record to your PCP.
“Priority Care is a safe, cost-effective option for patients who don’t need the emergency department when their regular physician is not available,” said John Shupert MD, a physician with TriHealth Priority Care. “You’ll receive the same excellent care offered at all TriHealth locations for things like injuries that might require sutures or x-rays to evaluate for broken bones, as well as minor illnesses such coughs, colds or strep throat.”
TriHealth Clinics at Walgreens are another easy way to complete non-emergency visits with a physician when your doctor is unavailable.
Our Telehealth options, including TriHealthNow, video and e-visits, are also available for virtual care at any time on any day. TriHealthNow connects you with a U.S. Board Certified doctor via phone or video consult. You can schedule both virtual care and e-visits with your physician through secure messaging in MyChart, our patient portal.
Of course, real emergencies do sometimes happen. When you do have a real emergency, you should always call 911. Real emergencies include chest pains, uncontrollable bleeding, or difficulty breathing. You can ask emergency responders to take you to a TriHealth emergency department closest to you. All TriHealth emergency department physicians are board-certified in Emergency Medicine.
Whatever type of care you need, our medical team is here to provide you with expert care, so you can get back to what matters most. It’s another way TriHealth is honoring our mission to improve the health status of the people we serve.
