On Thursday, May 2nd, TriHealth team members, leaders and physicians gathered to celebrate 16 outstanding high school seniors from Cincinnati Public Schools who graduated from our innovative School to Work Program!
Among this year’s graduating class, 13 students are college bound, two have plans to enlist in military service to pursue careers in nursing, and one is immediately pursuing a career in health care. The TriHealth community is very proud of these students.
TriHealth is honored to have the opportunity to play a part in these students’ futures, and we were grateful to hear that each graduate has credited their School to Work Program experience as an influence in their career choices!
The TriHealth School to Work Program is a collaboration between TriHealth and Cincinnati Public Schools that gives CPS high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to gain real-life health care experience.
The program allows students to rotate through work assignments in various clinical and non-clinical departments and settings at Good Samaritan Hospital, giving them a realistic taste of multiple areas of health care.
The School to Work Program was started in 2019 with a grant from our partners at bi3, who have since continued supporting it alongside TriHealth’s other partners at CommonSpirit and the Good Samaritan Foundation.
Since then, over 100 students have participated in the program, with almost 50 of those students either in college or working healthcare after graduating high school – and with others still moving into their senior year in the coming fall.
The growth of the program is also encouraging. This year's School to Work Program signup expanded to a record 44 participants, giving more students than ever before an opportunity to gain these valuable health care experiences.
“School to Work is more than just a program,” says Joi Lindau, the program’s director. “It's a beacon of hope, inspiring high school students to pursue a career in health care by providing real experience, teaching job readiness or soft skills, and offering support and guidance through a mentorship program with TriHealth professionals.”
