Karen Huelsman is a Licensed and Board‑Certified Genetic Counselor specializing in hereditary cancer risk assessment, genomic‑guided care, and personalized cancer prevention. She has more than 23 years of experience in oncology genomics and joined TriHealth in 2012.
Karen provides counseling for patients and families navigating hereditary and tumor‑based genetic testing. She partners closely with TriHealth’s oncology teams to integrate genomic insights into treatment planning and supports patient care across all TriHealth cancer locations. As Precision Oncology Lead, she helps guide biomarker‑driven care, supports clinical trial readiness, and advances systemwide standards for genomic testing and interpretation.
She has played key roles in developing Precision Oncology services at TriHealth, including leading Molecular Tumor Board and quality‑improvement initiatives that enhance access to advanced genomic technologies. Karen is an experienced speaker for both professional and community audiences and has contributed extensively to education in cancer genetics. She has authored more than 20 original publications.
Karen achieved her MS in Medical Genetics at University of Cincinnati and her BSE in Genetic Bioengineering at Purdue. She has recently completed advanced training in Immuno Oncology and Precision Oncology Technology from Harvard Medical School and earned training certificates in Pharmacogenomics and Applications of AI.
Her clinical interests include multi‑omics, pharmacogenomics, liquid biopsy technologies, and the evolving use of blood-based circulating tumor DNA in early cancer detection. Karen’s care philosophy centers on helping each patient understand their genomic results and treatment options in clear, compassionate language.
