It's time to visit a sleep specialist when you have trouble maintaining a normal pattern of sleep and symptoms are interfering with daily activities.
Why do I have to have an office visit before my sleep study? Our physicians are trained sleep specialists. During your office visit, a physician will perform evaluations of you for one of the over 80 sleep disorders that are currently known. Some sleep disorders may be treated without requiring a sleep study, while others require a sleep study to determine which disorder you may have and its severity. This visit not only ensures that we are providing you with the best possible service, but it is also a requirement for the sleep center to meet the high standards of accreditation.
What are some of the consequences of sleep disorders if left untreated?Anxiety, depression, fatigue, memory loss, hypertension, cardiac disease, stroke, traffic accidents.
What age range of patients do you see?Usually, we have a lower limit of 7 years old (some exceptions) and no upper limit.
What should I bring to my sleep study? We suggest you pack as if you were visiting a hotel, as well as a pillow. Because you will be monitored by a technician, we require patients to wear sleepwear during the study. Night gowns, PJs, sweats, shorts and t-shirts are all allowable for sleepwear.
What if I can't fall asleep?"There's no way I can fall asleep with all this stuff on me!" The good news is that you do, it just may take you a little longer than normal. If this is a concern, please voice this to our physician during your appointment.
Can I go to the bathroom during my sleep study?Definitely! Fully equipped, private bathrooms are in each of our rooms.
Can I bring my spouse or loved one to accompany me during the sleep study?Yes! They cannot sleep in the same room but we will provide another room next door for them to stay.
Are your services covered by insurance? Most insurance companies provide coverage for the evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders for adults and children. We will contact your insurance company for your policy's specific conditions.
